NZ Drought.

Love the Jaffa comment!!!

Been away on a wee trip around Milford sound, Mt cook way last week.
WE've had over 35 mm of rain here in the Amuri Basin, some against the hills will have had over 50 I recon.

We have stayed greener at this end than a lot of places, been drilling solidly for the last 4 weeks and a lot has struck. My brother sent some dust bowl pics from his travels up north, not good. Mt Cook area hadn't had rain in 2 months, Milford Sound had only received 129 mm in the same time which is a drought for them (they get over 7 meters of rain a year).

Hey JD what day are you off to the field days? I will go thursday or friday.

why do you call Aucklanders jaffas?
in the eyes of a lot of JAFFA's there is nothing south of the bombay hills not that long ago the power went off 6 years ago late winter (ben and FF may recall ) for 2-3 hours , it was like the end of the world had happened no lights no efpos no coffees etc etc
power co rushed off it's feet trying to get power back on on the same news program they interviewed a farming family in the snow no power for 14 days had the BBQ out and a genny and linesman that had been doing 18 hour days and had to stand down to get some sleep ..

the dry at the mo is makeing them cart water no hoseing etc etc .. so hear a bit on talkback long time listner first time caller some are doing it tough only showering once a day and washing the jag every other day to save water they have gone back to putting milk in the coffee so less water used

good thing about the dry it dose bring rural and towns folk on the same page a bit ( not a lot tho ) if yer talking to the towns folk they know about the dry there garden is buggered and the lawns dead , there was a guy on telly last night haveing to sell 6000 ewes (25% of his flock) even tho the town people don't realy know once numbers start being talked they can start to get a bit of a pic ,and like i said they are short of water too so know it's a pain in the arse

totaly diffrent if we say lambs too cheep they go "it costs too much at supermarket " they are shocked a bit when they find out what we get some things we are poles apart

JD Kid, there is no problems with water in Auckland with town water, if your on tank water, like out " west" or on Waiheke Island, they are having problems.About 10 or 12 years ago they put in a pipeline from the Waikato river (not brewary;)) to Auckland as backup. As we are upsteam from the intake, and it gets a bit dry,we say "flush the toilet twice, Auckland needs the water"Also up here we refer to the Bombay Hills as the border between New Zealand and Auckland!(y)

ummmm can recall needing a passport to get in to otago lucky for me i was born in Speightstown so have one .. guess it will not work in auckland tho

just tiped out the last of the rain bottom of our place 40 mm house 54mm and 3/4 's of the way up 85mm so not a bad rain for us bit of a bugger some others did not get as much tho

thought they just bottled out of the river for WD if it's the same water that flows in to auckland taps kinda clears up a few questions i used to have about the jaffas

thinking of going to Lincoln tomorrow, things a bit saturated now so need a day to dry out too.
Will be at the Norwoods stand around 1pm, they should be giving me lunch cos I bought a new tractor ha ha.

I didn't realise that the Waikato pipeline went ahead!! I remember the jokes about sending people on the plane north with a bucket of water each ha ha ha.

The trip was good & my partner had leave owing that she had to take, use or loose type of thing.

The pipeline was built on 2002 by Watercare can run at 75 million litres per day, which at low flows is less than 1%, so its classified as a drought resistant source. As for "Waikato", its Ok if its cold, if it gets warm your not drinking it fast enough!:dead:

Interesting to read how it is a universal problem of the urban sprawls taking the resources and being unable to cope with a problem, blowing it out of proportion.

Its a bit like in the south east UK when they have an inch of snow its a disaster, hovever Scotland can have feet of the stuff and they just get on with it.:censored:

BTDT, was amazing how little snow would shut down the Underground!
