NZ lamb

Is their such a thing as friendly competition, it’s just competiton. It’s funny that whatever I buy anything from New Zealand from Prattley hurdles to waterproofs, it’s a hell of a price yet lamb seems very competitively priced 😢
Most all of the NZ stuff I've seen in the UK is cheaper than the same thing in NZ, including Parattleys, I could buy a container load of Prattleys in the UK and ship them back to NZ for the same price I could buy them in NZ.

Dropping slowly as supply comes on, about $6.30/kg I think.
As @JD-Kid said a fair few are in a hurry to offload, maybe in the position of being a bit overstocked coming off a couple of dry years.

The market is a LOT stronger when the Chinese are hungry, same with most commodities in this respect. We haven't got covid-19 just about to be discovered, this year 😉 so I don't forsee a massive price jump due to Chinese interests 🤐🤫
I sold small store lambs this week at $2.40 kg/LW bigger lambs are still making $2.70 kg/LW

You do wonder why these companies operate in this way. See it in this country too in that they dont offer local trade any better deal than someone half way round the world.

The UK has more competition and a bigger population, plus the various grant schemes help, companies like Prattley and Combi clamp sell many many more units in the UK than they do in NZ. Plus sea freight is relatively inexpensive and internal freight in the UK is much less than NZ, you have a great motorway system and don't have a pesky bit of water in the middle. I've been told it is the same freight price to get a set of Prattleys from NZ factory to a farm in Scotland as it is to get a set from the factory to a farm north of Auckland.

That was one thing that surprised me in New Zealand ,was how expensive the food was ,much dearer than here. I could buy the Kiwi wine cheaper over here than i could buy it New Zealand.
just shows the pressure uk supermarkets / processors can put on contracts , i expect next years shipments are ordered long before lambs are even on the ground , bit like the arable boys selling grain forward . I have no problem with NZ lamb as it keeps a reasonably priced cut in the shops in a usually quiet time for lamb marketing , I do however have a problem when its used to drive our prices down further peak season and through the summer , but this is more a larry stunt , than tesco
