Could anyone identify the object in the photos? I found it buried in a field at my parents house in north Devon.

Horse shoe door knocker
Somebody got creative trying to use old horse shoes this is a prototype but failed to sell so it got wanged into a field on the way home.

Is it something to do with a cow drinking trough. The thing the cow pushes its nose on to get water

I thought door knocker to start with but having 2nd thoughts. The 2 lugs on the side are to stop it bottoming out on the valve spring when it is pressed by the cows nose to let the water flow.
