whats UC4?4.90 for creosote and 3.30 for UC4
I’ll let one of the pro’s give a better answer, but it’s treated to give a ‘desired’ life of 15yrs. I think the posts are dried first to a certain moisture first too.whats UC4?
I was thinking more of getting timber supply companies to give us detailed info on species of timber used, length of drying period and type of treatment; i.e which chemicals and whether vacuum/pressure and for how long.Isn't that what this thread is all about?
They all lie, I wouldn't trust a word they said.I was thinking more of getting timber supply companies to give us detailed info on species of timber used, length of drying period and type of treatment; i.e which chemicals and whether vacuum/pressure and for how long.
If they want to sell fence posts to us why would they not agree to publishing this info? If all the relevant companies were asked to do this on TFF and they agreed it would surely help?
Calders and Grandidge also sell telegraph poles in the UK and have done so for many years.I've never heard any one condem scanpole . They have been at New port docks for centuries. Does anyone else supply electric poles bar them
Newport timber preservation company Burt Boulton & Haywood (BBH) has been sold to Scanpole Ltd by its Finnish owners Metsä Group.
The companies have signed a contract of sale and expect the deal to go through by June 2015.
BBH, founded in 1848 by railway engineers HP Burt and SB Boulton, makes telephone poles, power transmission poles, sleepers, crossing timbers and other products from its base on Alexandra Dock.
Been there since 1848 !!

Well I used to have a very good relationship with the manager that Calders and Grandidge had at their depot at Westbury-on-Severn. Jim Martin was first class and very helpful, I used to keep about £10,000 worth of time in there drying. It would be checked for moisture content by their Electricity Board chap when he was doing telegraph poles. Most of it was in their yard for a year before being treated. Having now fenced 70 properties for deer I think it is fair to say I do have a bit of experience. My own fencing is now 30 years old and only had to replace a few stakes in the last year or two. They all lie, I wouldn't trust a word they said.
Ask them for proof and certificate to show standards used, we only supply pine posts treated and dried to 28% but I agree overseas suppliers use can be problematic with the way they treat. You can always visit us to see how we treat and care for our products. They all lie, I wouldn't trust a word they said.
