Off Grid Camp - An opportunity to diversify farm income without the hassle of a conventional campsite

Hello! We’re Tom and Rozzi and we’ve just launched a website called Off Grid Camp which links 4x4 overlanders with landowners who are looking for somewhere wilder to camp. It is a great opportunity to diversify your income without the hassle of running a conventional campsite. All our members are fully self-sufficient, expect no facilities and respect the #leavenotrace principal so all that you need to provide is a small corner of your land. We currently have around 30 sites signed up across the UK, which include grassy meadows, woodland and hill side spots including one up on the side of a Cumbrian Fell looking out towards the Lake District (one of our favourites!). And we're currently preparing to launch to campers in the next month ready for the Spring and Summer camping season.

It is free to list your location on Off Grid Camp and we take no commission on bookings. Our members will book directly with you. Members pay a yearly subscription to us to access the list of Off Grid Camp locations. You can accept members to stay on your terms and you choose where you want our 4x4 capable members to set up camp so you have full flexibility to adapt around farming activities.

There’s lots more info on our website (www.offgridcamp.co.uk) including a Potential Earnings Calculator and details regarding insurance and planning permission (none required for 28 days!). We’re also happy to answer any questions you have either directly or on the thread below.

If you’re interested then you can register your land via a form on our website that only takes 2 minutes to fill out (https://www.offgridcamp.co.uk/register-your-land/). We will then create a page for you to review prior to launching.

Thank you!

Tom and Rozzi

My son is into wild camping as he calls it (rather than overlanding), he has a 4x4 with Oz style tray and canopy and does have a roof tent and awning. Proper nice bit of kit tbh and him, his missus and two kids are well into it. They will leave no trace and will not be doing donuts in your wheat stubble etc.
Just saying this if anyone is considering signing up because it can be a good little earner if you have a suitable spot. Obviously I can't speak for everyone but from what I have seen they are a sensible and respectful bunch, as with most groups the dickheads are usually put right.

Hello! Update from Off Grid Camp HQ - We launched to campers this weekend and have had a great response so far.

Below is a reminder of what we're about:
  • We are building a community of 4x4 overlanders and adventure enthusiasts looking for somewhere wilder, quieter and more remote to camp. All that we ask of our locations is to provide somewhere wild (and preferably flat!) to camp.
  • It is free to list your location on Off Grid Camp and we take no commission on bookings. Our members will book directly with you. Members pay a yearly subscription to us to access the list of Off Grid Camp locations. You can accept members to stay on your terms and you choose where you want our 4x4 capable members to set up camp so you have full flexibility to adapt around farming activities.
  • Calculate your potential earnings using our calculator: (Earnings Calculator)
  • It takes 2 minutes to register your land (Register here)
We're offering free membership to all locations so if you fancy exploring some of the wilder places across the UK yourself, you can (if that's your thing..!).

Lots more info on our website (Off Grid Camp). Any questions, comments, feedback - please do get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss!

Thank you!

How do you actually make this stack up as a business or am I missing something. Based on 28 days thats only 9 weekends with no guarantee of customers but insurance costing a fortune.

Hi John, the insurance cost depends on your insurer and the make up of your policy. Our understanding from existing Off Grid Camp landowners is that it is possible to add third party liability insurance for 'occasional camping' to your policy without significant additional cost. Separately from the insurance, we've tried to make it as simple (free to register and no facilities expected) and easy (2 minute registration form) as possible to set up as a location to minimise costs and support landowners in diversifying their income.

Looks good, perhaps suggest using what3words for campers to be able to find the camping spot!
