Oh the logistics of planning a family holiday

You’re really missing out if you don’t make the effort to get away. You only live once. I went to Canada a few weeks ago; the workload was ridiculous for the time leading up to it and extremely stressful but when you get on plane or in car to go you just have to accept there’s nothing more you can do if you’ve organised sufficiently and just enjoy it

We go and look after the brother in laws twice a year. When you are stuck in an office 5 days a week then a week or two of walking dogs, watering veg and stopping the sheep from killing themselves is great!!
Write your list.... then remove about 50% of it because it won`t go wrong!

Just got back from Canada ourselves, I always find you see the real best of people when your away, we came home to 4 new calves, 7 un expected lambs! and amount of milk in the tank around the same as when we left so all good. Yes it's a huge amount of work preparing and something will always go wrong, and you won't get everything finished before you go, but you will come home with memories and photos, you live life once, so live it.

We used to have 4 sides of A4 with what needed doing, instructions on using the breadmaker, washing machine, TV etc. On our return after say a week, there would be 4 sides of A4 covering what had happened eg lame sheep, missing sheep, extra sheep (?), diseases found, fences broken, which neighbours had been summoned, what needed fixing urgently, what could do with fixing. After that I needed another holiday. ;)

There are no neighbouring farmers capable. Our neighbour is elderly, the one is a member of the family but not capable and can be an awkward buggar, rest is horseland/rented. Cousin is a possibility. My mother is elderly and too far away and mother-in-law would only be capable of watering a few plants. I do have some plans over the year thinking about bringing a caravan/camping pod as an option as we have some people doing some tree works etc and it could be an opportunity there for short term accommodation.

Its not fair that the boys don't have a holiday and it seems the years are flying by now. We had a great Eurocamp holiday 3 yrs ago and its brilliant for them and plenty to do for us. I def need a holiday and no damp UK holiday - I came back more miserable than I went. Just doesn't tick the box.

Hmm, here in France at this time, it has rained pretty much every day for the last four weeks !

Just come back from a holiday cruising the Norwegian fjords.
I was a bit worried as first time since dad died, and although he was too old to do anything, he knew what to look for in the event of an emergency. Needn't have worried, as my neighbour kindly checked the cattle and our tenant shut the hens up. Dogs went to family for the week.
It was well worth it, as had a wonderful time.
Ohhhh.........Norwegian Fords....:love::love::love::love::LOL:
