Old cars left behind

God bless Buick :)
And the Rover engineers who sorted out all the engines problems!(well, most of them).Buick were unable to make the cast in, ribbed liner block work, scrapping more than were good, pressed in liners cured that. Cam shaft and followers remained a weak point, but nickel plating the rocker shaft slowed the rapid wear there. Shafts lasted less than 40,000 to start with, Buick couldnt believe we expected much more mileage from engines over here, they expected cars in the states to be scrapped at about 30.000!
This engine also powered the Brabham/Repco F1 car.

Fancy a MK1 Granada Coupe, but that will never happen. Or the little Audi above converted to a two-door. Just move the B pillar, how hard can it be?

Most Ford engine at the time would have been on the bench many many times before 70k on the clock.
Knew no better ..........

Genuine Ford camshaft were so bad they were buying spurious and rapping them in Ford paper for across the counter trade customers. Boy was that paper dear ...........

Ford knew better, be sure of that! I was working at Walker Jacksons, in Swindon , in the A1 used car side. No car made it here unless, it had less then 20.000 on the clock(design life was 40.000) if a pinto, it had a new cam, followers and rail fitted. At that time Fords had two standards for parts, dealer fit were much better than what Joe public bought over the counter, this applied to brake pads, coolant hoses, clutch kits etc. A real gem was the special abrasive brake pads we fitted to cars which has been standing and had rusty disks, this was mainly to new cars.

No servo to apply pressure to the pads, better with shoes at least they would self assist into the drum.
Think the rail would block and leave the cam running dry .........
