If you can find a few more pennies in the jar I’d go fir a 700 series. Lots more creature comforts and a fantastic tractor fir pulling. Faster down the road and would likely have some form of guidance included. C9 motor is a powerhouse and good on fuel. The early cats were good rugged machines but very dated now

Thanks everyone apprecaite responses...yes seen firbys would prefer to try and buy private or auctions if at alll possible and not in no massive rush as of yet for one. Yes seen and was following the one at Cambridge but I think it was a lifeboat crawler so thoight it would be fairly rusty also had no back link arms or drawbar with it.. yes @Flatlander would be intrested in the newer ones but I’m pretty sure they are a lot more penny’s is that correct? Also I’m looking at class/cat challenger what’s people’s thoughts on them? I take it there a bit of a highbrid made in the Ford factory are they pretty bulletproof? Apprecaite what your saying abowt being outdated and yes that would be a worrie.

As far as I know. Others are welcome to correct me but the early cat/ claas ones were built around the Ford genesis design. The funk power shift was among the most reliable transmissions but the 700 series have a cat power shift 16 forward 4 reverse. Once theses tracked unit get in in age the undercarriage would be my first port of call. I’ve 2 tracked units, both challengers and one has been costly to maintain. Tracks offer a great field ride and great outright puller. Not so great on the road. Keep in mind Cat are more industrial/ construction oriented company and know how to charge for parts. Either vintage will serve you well I’d think just pick a well maintained unit.
