You're right that they are all black birds, all corvids.I’m not so sure now?
Rooks look as though they wear baggy trousers, and flocks of them eat leatherjackets out of your reseeds (and glean grain); crows will be scoffing the ewe who's stuck on her back and can't do much about it; jackdaws are the pretty little ones that block your chimney with their nests.
Jays and magpies are more easily distinguished.
