Old magic potion?!

Every lambing time, the old man and me have the same robust disagreement over the magic potion he inists on giving ill sheep who have the runs.
The sheep are of course treated with meds depending on what I think is the matter with them too.
Anyhoo.... the rep for the magic potion has long since gone, probs the company too and thus dads stash has finally been exhaused, he's now insisting I search the earth for more ..... but surely it is just a bottle of snake oil..... thoughts?

Used to use this, bottles are ideal for putting lube in afterwards as you can push it into the ewe’s cervix and squeeze lube inside.

Now I use a version by “country” which is half the price. For a twin they recommend 50ml, the bottle has notches on the label for every 50ml. Last night had a case of twin lamb on a massive triplet ewe, 80ml of calciject 40%, 75ml of twin lamb solution down the throat and she was first to the trough this morning (y)

Oh no it's not a TLD formula, got ketosaid and Calciject for that.

Apparently (according to dad), black drink.is for scours

Take the concentrate away and give them silage only (y) I used to use a 1lb metal scoop. Used to have no end of scouring, I moved to a 1/2lb plastic scoop and very rare have a problem - that’s with ewes not used to being fed. Now singles don’t get anything but silage unless their in for more than 7 days.

Gramp used to have a product called Tony when I was a kid, think it was from a company called Tuco if I remember right, smelled lovely, aniseed. Was the go to for a dull ewe or a cow, came in a long necked bottle that you just tipped down them.
Then came Battles ewe tonic, but was more gingery and tasted horrible. Vet used to supply a stomach powder in a tin that you mixed with tepid water and which we used to drench with, suspect it was ginger and baking powder and snake oil.
But the Tony was the best of the lot.

Black Drench is brilliant for the sheep keeper! Do not deride it!

If the sheep recovers, it has helped her.

If the sheep dies, the keeper has, at the very least, tried to help her.

Sadly, it was the latter for a group of ewes bought in umpty years ago. We did try, though.

Nowadays, there's an anthelmintic to treat haemonchus, thank goodness.
