Old oilseed rape varieties

Rape today is rubbish. Must be nearly 40 yrs ago that Jet Neuf, Bienvenue etc were pushing 2 ton/ac at £360 ton.
Was not called black gold for no reason.

We're still growing Bienvenue.

But only because we lost half a tonne to the acre in a storm in the late '80's, and it's still showing as a pale leggy 'off type' volunteer in the same field

So they never notice the single low seed?

It all blends away when it's on a boat, but we were bricking it a few years ago when 'the trade' said they were tightening up on glucosinate testing levels and testing every lorry load, and threatening to make serious deductions.

But the real issue was having grown HEAR for Frontier up until 10 years ago we knew that we were potentially on thin ice, but luckily the intakes seem to have forgotten about their new rules (I've jinxed it now). You can spot the occasional HEAR volunteer, as it has a very narrow leaf.
