Old treated Seed vs off the heap Seed.

Looks like I will be about 1/2 a bag short of wheat seed. I have some old seed that is 3 years old that was treated with single purpose and latitude, it's either that or use some off the heap? Reason for asking is I heard somewhere that the seed treatment can affect germination after a time.

I’m drilling some 2019 seed at 275kg/ha to overcome any potential issues. It’s not latitude dressed thought, just SP.
If it fails I will drill some spring barley into it (around 10 acres)

I've a bag of wheat that has not come up :X3: Field had capped though, just praying it makes a late appearance with this rain but not hopefully. SP dressed, I though it was last years seed but I am wondering if it we got mixed up last year and is actually 2019 seed. The 2019 barley seed looks to have come up well. Historically I never liked to carry Jockey dressed seed over, I have seen a bag of that perform very poorly compared to new seed.

Had two bags here of Latitude dressed '19 WB seed supplied by a respected national merchant against our June '21 order.

Drilled at normal rate, seems to have come up just fine - as good as our own '21 seed and a bit better than the various '20's leftovers.

Seem to remember '19 as a good harvest, particularly for WB.

From what I’ve been told Latitude isn’t the best treatment to have on over-yeared seed. It will also depend on how well it’s been stored, you really need to put some on some damp tissue paper in the airing cupboard to know for sure.
Likewise with your stuff off the heap, some poor seed sample results with fusarium infection this year. But mine tested fine so was drilled untreated.
For half a bag I’d go with off the heap and up the rate, if you want to make sure something grows on the area mix it in with the last bag of seed.

Our first bag of barley seed sown was a 2018 bag that was still lurking in the shed
It was drilled then the 2019 stuff then onto this years new seed
After it was drilled there was 2” of rain on it !!!!
So the really old seed it looking a bit sad..... shouldn’t have drilled it :-(

I would test it, latitude isnt good at the best of times, drilling treble rate might still be a failure, and you wont know until its too late to rectify.

I’ve found that old seed can be ok but depends on how it’s kept. most of my seed is home grown. I’ll only keep if it’s naturally very dry. Tough some years but find better vigor and will keep its germ for a couple of years. Kept cool and dry I don’t worry keeping it for a couple of years. Nothing dressed here thou. I’d take from your heap rather than have to go back and reseed after it’s too wet. Staging issue for spraying too.
