Older self propelled sprayers

Do you really need a 3000+ L tank?
Surprising the acreage you can cope with with a good mounted sprayer. As for high clearance on the Rape just contract that out if needed. I have no problem with flowering Sprays using a mounted ( I do take the trouble of fitting a sheet below tractor and sprayer) and I don’t spray pre harvest. 3000+L SP is nice but can it really be justified. Expense for a big repair can be a salutary lesson.

@RAF has a nice Bateman for sale very well looked after and maintained
I think I have spoken with him, and we are too far apart on price. Bateman is a nice machine, but unfortunately when someone starts saying its twice the price of a SAM ( same boom width, same tank size, 50hp more in the Sam, both hydro, both on air) because it's twice the machine, I kind of lose interest in discussing further as statements like that are wide of the mark and makes me wonder what else will be "wide of the mark". Sorry, but for the price of a bateman I can get something much newer than the bateman, or the same age much cheaper with at least the same/more features and at least the same capacity.

I do get that, but how many sprayer components are manufacturer specific? Pipes, couplings belts etc can be sourced locally and probably cheaper?

What are people's experiences with SAM sprayers? Are they reliable?

Cheers for the replies so far. Our fields are fairly small so the up and down drags aren't very long, it's more that the sprayer needs to be stable going across the hills (hillmaster combine so we cut across the slopes not up and down).
Looked at multidrive and like it, but the axles would likely be too low when dedicating rape to be much higher than the sprayranger on its row crops. The hydrostatic sprayers seem to have the best crop clearance, but went and looked at a chafer mirage 2 and it's nice, but seems too high on 48 inch rowcrops to be stable across a slope.
Like the look of bateman but very strong money for 11k+ hours. Thinking possibly Sands as well. CASE SP3000? Knight sp? Not heard much good about househam
We spray plenty of osr with our Multidrives and don't seem to cause any more damage than hydrostatic machines. You won't find anything more sure footed on hills.
