Olly Blogs goes combining barley..............in December!!

Our Claas combine established a free cover crop of barley behind it every year. Never saw any benefit in following crop.

From what I have seen in his videos the barley was down as a cover crop with home saved untreated seed. No inputs so anything harvested was just a bonus. In previous attempts he thought the cover crop had benefitted the following crop.

I think here in the drier s.e it could be do-able. Would have to be straight in behind the combine behind wbarley in mid July. Seedbed N. Cross fingers. If it's going into a spring crop anyway you have a lot less to lose.

Theres a lad down the road from me plants spring wheat/ barley/beans in june then combines from november onwards. Seen him combining wheat on xmas day. Regular occurance.

He said himself he should of drilled it 2 weeks earlier and he lost a fair bit of yield in the two recent storms.
It had no inputs and the chopped straw will benifit the soil more than carting it away as whole crop etc.
What he dose he dose bloody well imo

I cut thirty acres of beans in march one year for a neighbour

Hmmmm with 29k subscribers yes he’s probably got some perks like more demos ect, maybe a little bit of discount here and there… the odd gift of a jacket or something but I doubt he’s drawing any sort of wage off it don’t forget I bet that video took half a day too edit and put together and he probs lost an hour over the day setting up cameras ect up … I doubt it’s as glitz and glam as some of the jealous make it out too be….
