On farm white diesel

We have one and in my opinion it’s well worth it, you save a fair few quid compared to the pumps, and the convenience of not having to travel to fill up
Also a lot less bank transactions and receipts that get lost etc
The added bonus for us is I can fill the pickup up before the lads turn up for work, before we had the tank we would end up queuing at the fuel station behind all thickos buying £6 coffees and £7 sandwiches

We have a white tank, there is also an Asda with a filling station about 800metres from us.
Asda is usually around the same price but, as has been said, it is the convenience. This has been proved lately as we didn’t have to queue when everyone was panic buying.

I wonder how many farmers will try to teach the young who tend to have one speed (flat out) to just take it a bit steadier this season. Ok I was young once and tried to drive the tractors of the day at max while silage and corn carting, but I wasn’t paying the bill! Can much really be saved by having a lighter touch and or setting auto speed a fraction lower?
Mate drove for Sainsburys and was part of a experiment to save fuel by driving at max 40mph on A roads. Saved 15% on average.

Definitely find myself turning the tractor off more often when idling. We asked about a home tank. Dealer said average 6p/l saving but attractive to thieves which would rapidly wipe out years of saving. Going past a garage twice a week anyway.

I seen somewhere (for cars) that if you were to be stopped and idling for more than 7 seconds it was cheaper in fuel to turn off the engine

We used to have one but the trouble I found was that you were only ordering fuel when the tank was empty so it was only really luck that you managed to buy it at a low price.

I have one, there’s usually a saving over pump price around 5ppl and the convenience is a big plus

It was a fantastically smug feeling in the last fuel panic to have fuel on site and not have to cue up with the muppets, and I’ve had no problem with security, the tanks out of sight, padlocked and the power isolated the same as the red tank so not much more I can do than that!

Less vat receipts to deal with too, we have 5 vehicles that run from it so it saves a lot of running about to the next village for fuel

Haulier working out of our yard told me yesterday his trucks were filling up at the pumps as he couldn’t buy bulk for his tanks anywhere near as cheap at present.
More normal times we decided that it wasn’t worth it unless using it very quickly because the price at the pumps only had to drop a penny or two and you lost out.
Bet you wish you had bought a few thousand litres a few weeks ago though!

Wire the brake lights to the horn!
It makes them drive a little steadier👍

A company i know of, pay its drivers £100 bonus per month if they do all their paper work on time and do not exceed 70mph (trackers fitted)
They do quite a few miles a month, but when i asked, the owner of the company says the fuel saving (this is about 7 years ago) alone, would cover the £100, plus there was a significant reduction in maintenance on the vans.

Its surprising how steady driving will save a lot of fuel.
And by steady, i dont necessarily mean slow.
