Opico Grain Drier Settings

Hi all,
We have an opico 555xl mobile drier. This is our first time growing and drying OSR, and I have been warned about the risk of heating it too much incase of fire ! What kind of settings are people using to dry this stuff ?? I assume that the only way of telling you are using too much heat is when your drier catches fire, so up to now I have been cautious with the heat settings ! Ive got the grain temp at 100 and plenum at 170 ...

Any advise appreciated ! Cheers.

I used to dry rape with the old drier, used to run the plenum at 180 I think, years ago now.
The fella that used to look after the driers round here told me there is little chance of it catching fire as the rape is always moving, He has a point I suppose.
I only dry barley & wheat now wilt the odd load of oats, plenum stays the same for all of it.

I find that I can reduce the final grain temperature quite a lot, keeping the plenum temperature at factory settings ( 180? For rape) as my machine over dries at factory settings. Have been getting rape down to mid 8 % with a grain temp of 100 degrees.

Wheat settings 175 plenum 105 grain temp gives me 14.5 Ish

I've noticed it's harder to get the air through the rape ... Seems to take a while to cool...

Got the hang of it now ! Bit nervous to start with as we didn't know if or where it was going to leak ..... Expensive stuff this year to be dropping it round the yard !

Have just bought a 555xl of a neighbour, the tin work at the bottom of the centre auger is about rotten, would it be a genuine Opico part or can you get pattern parts
We will be using it to dry corn for feed so only down to about 16% so might not get used a lot some years, it is a gas drier and I know it’s a fortune this year but normally is it economic to run them on bottles or how much is tank rental normally

Give Morgan farm machinery a call. They will be able to help. They know all there is to know about opico driers

I think you will be on a big tank. I have one and it’s not a problem and your supply company have to keep it legal. A friend rears lots and lots of pheasants and he has just had to move to big tanks because he can’t get bottles anymore. I’m not sure why.

My mate bought a refurbished Opico grain dryer from the company below and seems pleased enough for the price.

Josh is the main man and is mentioned in the other thread I've posted.

I've noticed the thread also mentions Morgan machinery as well, to be fair.

So take your pick 👍

Thanks
I will give recondriers a call as they advertise the part as a bottom grain pan

We had a bottom pan from Josh when we did up our dryer , he also reflighted the augers and replaced the main auger tube. It was a few years now but it wasn’t that expensive. Looking for someone to rewire the dryer this year.
