MCPA is illegal pre drilling unless it's before end of Feb in the year of harvest.

Has anyone else heard about Foam weeding - I was sent a link this week:

https://www.weedingtech.com/why-foamstream/foamstream-vs-alternatives/

Quote from their website - "Foamstream requires fewer treatment cycles than any other herbicide-free solution. Its treatment cycles are even comparable to those of glyphosate. "

There was a machine at bit like this about 7/8 years ago at a show at Newark. Mounted on the back of a tractor. Seem to recall it consumed a huge amount of energy to heat the foam up. Cost about £45k then iirc

That seems to be the problem commercially - as water is at boiling and imagine boiling 3000l of water!

Boiling water is probably more hazardous than roundup!

And will have a much higher carbon footprint. If end user products/foods were priced by carbon footprint, I reckon crop protection products like glyphosate that keep production costs down and have a low carbon footprint would all of a sudden become less likely to be banned.

As a group who rely on glyphosate to farm effectively - I cant believe the negative position re glyph's future. Its approval can only be revoked after a lengthy process, that is set to start again soon, that is based on evidence The overwhelming evidence is that it is SAFE to us, to the environment. It is political views that are causing this doubt. My opinion on what will happen is this - it will get re approved at EU level but with some restrictions - eg loss of pre harvest use. Why ? Practicality and hypocrisy. There is no practical alternative and and it would be hypocritical to allow imports from the rest of the world that will have had it as part of a cropping system....

The outlook is getting more and more bleak. Austria will apparently ban glyphosate coming year. France, Germany, Italy and Greece all seem to be against renewal and even eager to ban within the current period which is against EU regulations. And you lot in the UK are about to leave giving us less chance to win any majority in the other direction.
What will the overall changes be?
Organic production is falling into a situation of large stocks with prices accordingly. With a ban I guess there will be some effect on conventional prices as costs will rise. Will they meet? CAP is about to be cut too.
