Options for leading discs

I`m looking to adding leading discs to my co4 to reduce disturbance. What options do i have? I like the simplicity of the leading discs on the Mzuri rezult, but are they strong enough for the job? The Yetter ones look good, but pricey. Are there other supliers of straight discs that i should consider?

Covenbrook havent answered my email, but i think they are quite expensive? I would like to have the discs in frame close to the coulter, since i farm mostly small fields with alot of twists and turns. Are there other solutions to this or other manufacturers that make some reasonably priced discs assemblies?

I believe Covenbrooks discs are £325 each and bolt on quite easily to horsch drills.
You could consider Claydons front disc units, basically a smooth disc, Skf Bearing hub and cranked leg to fit the hybrid drill. Price : £195 but you may get 10% off for a set. I expect a frame could be made at the front of a horsch to hold them in a row with some depth adjustment such as turnbuckles. This is something I am thinking of doing with a Co4.

@JDJ
what is the part number for the HEVA discs? thinking of maybe using those and make individual mounts infront of each tine. Would the rubber mounting take up some of the twisting force in sharp turns, or would it just break?

Hello
don't have a part number I just rang them up on the phone and ordered.

You can only go straight with the discs in, I you try to turn in a curve the tractor will just pull sideways. So I just lift the discs when doing curved headlands.

@JDJ and any others who have done this!! A sowing season later how are you getting on with front discs? any advice for somebody going to put discs on my co3? Do you see any problem with discs mounted solid axle in maybe 3 sections (2 Discs in middle beside drawbar and two sections of 5 each side) on simba type leaf spring to reduce shock on frame. Using old disc harrow maybe with straight discs. Thinking might be cheaper way. Hyd ram to lift out for headlands and curvy bits.

I ended up buying yetter coulters from Canada and individually mounting them in front of each tine. Having used them this year i am wery happy with how they work. The only problem is the two discs behind the front support wheels that i had to mount quite close to the tine. They can block up sometimes if its alot of damp residue the disc cant cut. Still experimenting with how deep i should have the discs in.

Looks very impressive. well done! Did you have to make frame "adjustments" or did they bolt on? Do you think the "wavy" disc would be better than a plain straight one? Also do you mind letting me know ballpark price and shipping ? pm if you prefer. I think your system might cost more than my drill!!

A few of them boltet straight on, but had to make mounts for most of them. I was affraid the wavy discs were gonna disturb alot of soil, but so far i am wery pleased with them. Cant really compare them to straight ones as i havent used any. If i recall correctly i paid approximatly 4000 USD incl shipping to norway. Quite expensive, but now my drill will handle almost any type of residue and conditions with minimal soil disturbance, so was money well spent i think.

straight one. can lose drive in some going wavy discs can be better. but can get too much soil throw in some cases

I did think of that but dismissed for 2 reasons:
1 I have a liq fert tank already on front (although it could be argued it could be an advantage to mount on top of discs)
2 I am trying to just cut in the same line as the tine. The further away from the tine the further off line you will likely be.
Still thinking!!!!

My latest drill mod project! I am extremely happy with my horsch co3 drill except for one issue of dragging in trash. The Duncan and simtec drills at groundswell seemed to work in terrible conditions because of the leading discs so I decided to go ahead. I have very heavy diverse covers so I had got cracking! Duncan Disc units were supplied by Duncan Ag and I have just completed today ........ready for trial with beans.

(I have one small mod to finish after trials ....rear ram mounts but not a biggie.

And for result: All works fab!! Ram is great for finding sweetspot on depth and next to no dragging. A little mustard stalk drags but no biggie. I had to move the radar forward and behind the wheel as mustard hitting it drove it mental! Tried lifting the discs but drill turned into a bulldozer!! SUCCESS!!
