osr as a cover crop

I am thinking of broadcasting osr seed on to w barley stubble . i could use it for grazing later in the year. I dont grow osr and the seed i am getting is hybred. Its raining here at the moment and 2 wet days to follow. Will it work. 6kgs per ha?

should grow ok if conditions suit, I'd be tempted to put 10kg/H though

I thought that OSR isn't particularly palatable for sheep. I know they will eat it but if you're buying wouldn't you be better off with a forage rape like Winfred or Hobson that is designed for sheep?

your right re forage rape. the osr seed is free but i will price forage rape.

Dont think its too expensive @Kildare and would be a better forage, you just planning to broadcast and then roll? Dont think we will get much rain over next few days (could be wrong on that) and soils very hard and dry?

yes was thinking of just spinning some on. no cost equals no loss if it does not grow. hope your right re rain , wheat ready monday

Osr not a great cover crop, no mycorrhizae but it is free biomass
