OSR Drill Project

Having sold my 750A as I was only using it for osr I decided to build a simpler mounted toolbar with disc coulters for drilling it this year . I wanted to use one of our front hoppers and that is set up for seed and Fert . As you will see by the pics I started with a 6m LELY power Harrow frame as a base and then built the coulters on to sub frames behind it , Its not been painted as I’m sure I will need to make a few mods . 7m wide, Hyd pressure on each coulter .

that looks to be a fine job, you spent a few quid..
can the likes of that be bought or is it a niche machine.
ill declare i know nothing about OSR at this point, or much about tillage either...

dose all osr get sowed in strips like that or can it be broadcasted.
how long dose it take a crop to grow, dose it like good ground or is fairly easy to grow.
how is it harvested, and once thats done where to then, storage, mill..
i have no interest in growing it, just curious about it if you dont mind me asking.

Osr can be grown in wide or narrow rows or broadcast it’s really down to the individual , it is quite hard to grow now due to slugs and pests . We combine our direct with a conventional combine it then goes straight off farm to central storage where it stays until sold to the end user .

These pics are the same field that my previous pics are from . I drilled just under 600 ac without any real problems with the drill . Everything I drilled looks really good apart from the last 50ac that went in 1st wk of September and has suffered from drought more than anything , we didnt have any rain on that last bit until last wk and what did grow just couldn’t get going fast enough to get away from the CSFB . We redrilled that 50ac on Thursday last wk as we were given some free hybrid seed to drill as a late OSR drilling trial , if it doesn’t come to anything apart from a mornings work I’m no worse off . Had a look today and it’s all chitted as now has plenty of moisture. I will keep getting some pics and post them on here .
