Not started here, fields either have wet straw waiting to be baled ,waiting for chicken muck to be applied,or have standing wheat.
Not panicking at all, hopefully start last week in August, conditions are completely different to last year so hopefully with all this moisture around and a bit of N,crops, with a bit of luck will romp away, unlike last year when they were desperately looking for moisture.

Oh, and I've upped my acreage this year too,
I need something to witter/worry about all winter.

My hazy memory.of my college lectures has me remembering to not drill rape before 20th August because of the flea beetle lifecycle.
I've always stuck to that, and unless it fails me, always will.

That seems odd because it will emerge in less than a week, when the flea beetle are most active unless the Kent CSFB season is different. For your climate in the Garden of England, that sounds about right for plant development.

As I recall, you guys didn't have much bother with beetle last year. The worst seemed to be in a big wide band from the Humber to the Solent, with the western edge being Somerset, the Severn river & Pennines. The eastern edge was East Anglia, London & Sussex.

Very little here, but others seemed to.get trouble.

Doh! On my phone it looked like DD into stubbles. On my PC it's obvious its after ploughing. Must go to Specsavers!
Kindest bit of dirt I’ve got on that photo. Wheat combined 2 weeks ago today chopping the straw. Ploughed a week ago last Wednesday.
Yes It’s a Kuhn Venta with seedflex coulters.

Into some much heavier, often very tricky dirt now. Been ploughed about 8 days and believe it or not, the rain has done it a power of good. The finish is miles better than I thought it would be.

Did it all 2/3 weeks ago. 2/3 looks good. 1/3 eaten by slugs which I will re drill on Wednesday zero till with a high seed rate. Hope it’s not too late.

You have not been following Two Tones previous posts. I have picked up he swears by the plough and ploughs everything.
@Brisel knows that.
But he’s being trying to persuade me of the virtues of Zero-till.
I use the plough as my no. 1 defences against Blackgrass and in this case to bury chopped straw (and muck in all other rape fields. Which acts as rocket fuel against CSFB).

It works for me, so I’m sticking with it. I combi drill (especially the rape) because compared to using a sumo or similar with a seeder box, I get vast superior yields.

@Brisel might need to go to Specsavers, but one of us might also need to go to “Brainsavers” too.
I’m not sure which one of us, mind?

This I am sprinkling it in front of a crosskill roller on a terradisc stubble cultivator. Some nice light land and some really heavy land.
I have gone over one field once already without the seeder on becasue it hasnt arrived yet and becasue I need two passes to kill some field pansies and cranesbill for definite.

Normally i drill 2 kg per ha or about 50 seeds per square metre.

What rate should I apply in front of the roller? Any ideas welcome. I hope to us a stocks turbo jet 8 secondhand if it ever arrives. Are they a barsteward to set up and operate or is it easy? Its never easy, is it.

50 seeds is plenty in a good seebed. That's all I'm sowing. I have gone below 40 seeds in a kinder year with expensive hybrid seed and it was thick enough by harvest.
