sowed just over 1/2 the planned acerage and now hanging fire as where its going is heavier dryer ground am going to wait until there is a chance of immediate germination which will mean a lot more rain than is forecast. Have had the wild thought of sowing more than planned as reckon across europe and here some folks wont , if it grows fine if it doesnt go back into cereals

I’ve drilled half our area an inch deep so it’s waiting for rain.
The other half will be subsoiler sown if we get rain this week. Home saved seed.
If they fail I’ll drill wheat again or spring barley.
It’s all about spreading your bets at low cost and accepting it’s not guaranteed to grow, and having a contingency.
It’s the new normal here. I’m getting used to it.

Can you take some pics too please?
Not down ours yet, the ground is like concrete and dry as a bone here.

Couldn’t get a spade in to dig down for moisture, so just levered this lump out that was cracked around it.

Nearly 12” ( 300mm ) to moisture

That sown 11 days ago is starting to emerge not full rows yet but they can be found chitted .as yet no sign of slugs or insects .Planning on another field if we get a bit more rain but its next to last years, though that whats growing in the stubble isnt being nibbled or shot holed yet

No rain here, bone dry to depth. Will tickle the top with discs and roll it then wait for rain. Not bothered if we don't drill until Sept but cant see the point in drilling atm with no moisture
