are many people growing osr with out putting on a butisan type product(matazachlor) and just relying on kerb or crawler. we usually put butisan on but left a few trial plots this year without any. cant see any difference.

No pre em here far too expensive used to use Elk , £55 ha !!! With an uncertain crop to bigger risk , the Flea beetle are definitely moving north !!!

Have moved away from pre or early post-em to a Crawler / Astrokerb approach. Although quite interested in the new Clearfield chems without metazachlor in.

Used to do full rate Novall mtz + quinmerac for poppy, cleavers and general BLW. Now I just do Centium clomazone pre em then follow up with Astrokerb later which clears up poppy, chickweed, mayweed & thistle.

It depends on your weed spectrum. Post em there are much less options, than pre em.

But if you don't know what csfb, slugs, emergence effects are going to be, it is always a risk spraying a pre em.

I have always managed with mostly good results without Pre-ems or early post ems, save your money until you are sure you have a crop to spend on!

Tried the no pre-em approach last year, and have a lovely stand of shepherds purse and cleavers in one field that ought to be topped.
Relying on Astrokerb alone is not enough here it seems.

I used Astro Kerb only this season and have the cleanest crop of rape I have ever grown. Direct drilled into spring barley stubble with co drill and heavy rain followed so no rolling done. Bar 3 to 4m around the headlands where slugs got the upper hand a perfect stand. Don't think the yield will be great having just started cutting today(n)
