All my planned Rape was getting on so well I chanced an extra 30ha on 5/9, DD into SB stubble and then no rain until last night and 20+ degree days was not ideal
it was coming under pressure last week so I gave it 5 ltr/ha of 15% Mn on Friday and it’s away this morning...

Had 15ha of later sown rape after spring barley. All had come nicely and at cotyledon stage by 2 days ago. Less than 10% plants affected by flea beetle but field next door has been more affected.
I planned to spray volunteers and pyrethroid on Monday night but only got round to it last night. In 24-36 hours the stuff went from under 10% plants to around 60% plants with damage.
The rain might slow them down anyway but I’m glad I got it done in the nick of time. Also spread a bit more seed in gappy areas. Time will tell if it works but it cost bugger all to do

TAG describe yellow bowls as unreliable and they have had more success with yellow sticky cards, but let us know what you find please (y)

Sown by subsoiler into spring wheat stubble 13/9 emerging nicely. I hope for a kind autumn to help it survive. No flea beetle around now - drowned in an inch of rain today

Well things are going slightly backwards here, however there is still a lot sat in the dry and some that has come after the last 10mm of rain is not even marked, so I live in hope, it's had some fert so has two chances.

What is this 'dry' you speak of?
In other news anyone getting a lot of volunteer rape in their rape crops?
one of our customers that's on a 4 year rotation has a fair bit of volunteer rape this time, field was last in rape 4 years ago and was a conventional variety shows how long it will wait in the soil, we dont seem to find too much bother using hybrids however the home farm is on a 6 year rotation.

This is on a 4 year rotation. Was in hybrid last and now but the volunteers won't be hybrid?
Hopefully the hybrid vigour of the proper stuff will out compete the interlopers.

looks great! how are you finding it compared to last year? I've not got any in this time but farmers nearby have and looks pretty good.
Definitely a lot less damage this year, all the osr below the cliff is a lot smaller but was drilled 3wks after this due to the spring barley not being ready, its not out of the woods yet,it needs a kind autumn.
I think putting N next to the seed is also helping.
I wasn't going to give up on osr because I had one bad year, previous year was one of my best years for rape.
