osr sowing survival strategy

If plenty of shotholing and you don’t apply an insecticide will this not make larvae problems worse later on?.

I realise you can go back later for larvae which are slightly more vulnerable if correctly timed.

Can anybody advise?.
I would have thought the old (current?) AHDB advice on spraying thresholds would be appropriate in these situations.

From AHDB Information Sheet 24

Consider applying a spray if:
– Adults have eaten over 25% of leaf area at the cotyledon–2 true leaf growth stage
– Adults have eaten over 50% of the leaf area at the 3–4 true leaf stage
– The crop is growing more slowly than it is being destroyed.

If you spray now you may as well plan to stop growing osr next year as all you will do is select more of the resistant beetles. Fair enough to help save the crop from grazing now but that’s just storing up trouble for the future. Leave it be if the AHDB thresholds aren’t exceeded so the predators have a chance to catch up which will help in the long term.

Not advocated spraying unless thresholds exceeded. Just curious to others take on this if there is any correlation between the level of adults and larvae populations. As I understand resistance is not total and some control is still achievable on farm. If insecticide sprayed will the beneficial's not start to build after it loses efficiency (7 days)?

Thanks. Any beetles in the field in the evenings now?
Can't see any evidence of major damage even the volunteer rape which is less mature isn't showing much sign of damage. Just thought one field hasn't had muck and gypsum yet as waiting for baler. I must see if there is any more or less damage there.

the prevailing easterly wind has been strong this last few days , on inspection our crop has very few holes ,however im more or less to the east of a couple of guys on here spraying, agronomist been today saying crop looks and has established well ,the decision to spray is tricky hardly enough damage but I fear the buggers are coming and having had a right off sp osr crop ive set up a couple of hoola hoop rings and any increase in shot holing /damage will result in the strategy of attack is the best form of defense
