ok,
So I can’t still can’t decide what to buy. V60 t8 is just too expensive. I’ve had the Outlander PHEV and I’m having it again on Monday. It’s juts a bit boring! I am having the new merc 300de hybrib when it arrives for three days, I am also trying the 350e . At weekends I’d be on electric only and during week I’d be on electric 30% of time.
Does anyone have one? Pleas don’t turn this into a “how the gearbox works thread “
Ps, the merc will be a c class Estate. 350e or 300de is the engine

I have a Phev and get on well with it. Had an L200 before.

I've driven an Outlander PHEV and quite liked it. It had few shortcomings common in Japanese cars (material quality and a bit poor infotainment), but otherwise i quite liked it. I do prefer the Mercedes though, mainly because of the quality interior.

Not that much choice of plug-in hybrids. There's a lot more choice of mild hybrids, including all Discovery Sport with auto transmissions but not sure of the timeline [imminent I think], Volvo's from now on but only the XC90 will be available over the next few months, with others following until the end of the year and the XC40 probably later still. Honda CR-V mild hybrid will be available next month. So will the Toyota RAV4

The Honda has a very good write-up. Have a look at Honest John's latest video. Expect about 40 to 45 mpg from it. I know you said not to divert to gearboxes but the Honda apparently doesn't have one as such. Not a multi-ratio one anyhow.

You are probably 12 months too soon for a large choice of relatively affordable PHEV's on the market.

The PHEV is great until after about 20 minutes of sitting on the seats. What you save on fuel will be more than spent on pile medication as a result. Quite the most uncomfortable vehicle ever built.

Should have mentioned, the engine on the Mitsubishi, Honda and Toyota may well run on the Atkinson Cycle rather than Otto Cycle. I can’t remember offhand which do and which don’t but I’ll take a punt that they all do.

@unlacedgecko Didn’t you have a hybrid Outlander that you thought a lot of?

I had one on contract hire but I didn’t think a lot of it!

Nice comfortable car to drive, but that’s it. Battery range of 15 miles (approx). After that the petrol engine does 28-30mpg on the motorway. The tank is too small for long trips. When towing the mpg drops to single figures. It has no off road capability, and there is no dif lock.

I would have been better off buying a hilux.
