Overlap trimble

Hi

Thinking about getting a cfx 750 for spraying but i have a question: on the last run in a field, having started with the contour, if there is an overlap will it show me on the screen how wide the overlap is? It would be useful so I could know which sections to close.

i wonder if my question was not clear enough so i will try to rephrase it. Does Trimble CFX-750 show on the screen the width that is currently being overlapped? it won't need to adjust the working width (by closing sprayer sections), i just want to know how much of the current width has been covered in a previous pass.

How do people that spray without GPS section control know what sections to close on the last run in a field?

You could guess from the screen how much overlap you have, and even make the sprayer width fill the screen by zooming in. I'll take a picture of the display this afternoon.
Also, if you have headland wheel marks already and say 4 sections, when the boom end passes over the middle of the headland wheel marks you know you have to have 2 sections on; when the join between sections (1/4 width of sprayer) passes over you drop to 1 section etc.

As @PSQ says. I do exactly the same as he does. It doesn’t actually show you how much overlap you are getting but you can see manually within a little(probably to within 2/3m)

It's easy to guess where the boom sections are with only 4 shut offs, doubt it would be easy with 5 or more, and I doubt you'd have time to work the individual switches. Easier to guess with a mounted / self propelled sprayer, not so easy to do with a trailed if the boom is still yawing from turning in.

The setting for the distance of boom behind antenna needs to be correct for obvious reasons.

How can you wire in the 4 shut offs so you can see which sections are on and which are off,
I think you either need the Trimble Field IQ system or a suitable control box on whatever make of sprayer you have linked to the Trimble screen for it to recognise any individual sections. On ours it shows no sections when the sprayer box isn't connected, plug in the Berthoud sprayer box we have and it brings up the 8 sections and shows which are on and off and only draws coverage of the sections that are on when you toggle the switches on the Berthoud box, or turn on the auto section control using the GPS signal.

Thanks Shutesy,I have seen the IQ system fixed on the bottom of the 750s at cereals but didn't know what they did,I have some Trimble leaflets here I'll look them up

Thanks for the info. My sprayer has 7 sections so it's a bit complicated. But i am thinking if i can zoom in so the working width covers the whole screen and set it in 2d mode, i could make some marks just below the screen that would represent the section widhts. Then i could see what sections i need to close when there's an overlap.

I did think about fitting a cut down laptop screen protector, and marking the sections on the screen with a sharpy pen.

Switching 7 sections in quick succession will be difficult. What would it cost to upgrade to an FM750 ‘Field IQ’ system for full automatic section control?

@manttys is the man to ask.

switching sections manually is not the problem, we've been doing it for years. knowing which section to shut off and when is what interests me. most of my fields are rectangles, so i would only need to shut off some sections at the beginning of the last run.

Sounds a bit contradictory when you say switching manually is not a problem but then it is a problem to figure out which sections to switch off.

Anyway, you are privileged to have rectangular fields and the scenery as in your avatar! Would have been fair to clarify the background first for others who tried to help.

I was responding ro this when i said that manual switching is not the problem.

I tried to make it clear what i am looking for from my first post. If most of my fields were odd shaped then auto section control would have paid off.
