Oxford MIG welder

Thinking about buying a MIG welder.
Want to future proof myself so thinking along the lines of a 410-1 Oxford S Mig with the separate wire feed unit. Only have access to single phase.
The workshop is wired with 10mm2 cable with 6mm2 running to the outlets around the walls. Would this be man enough for this? It is unlikely that I would be running at high power very often but I want to have the option of this.
Anyone on here got one?
How do you find it?

Not sure what you mean by 10mm2 or 6mm2 cable?
2mm cable is definitely not enough.
If you mean 2 core I hope you have an earth!

I mean 10mm squared as in the sizing of the cable used to feed the workshop and each of the sockets. I.e. A standard 13amp socket is normally fed with 2.5mm2 cable. And yes it is twin and earth cable.

Sorry yes, I assume that you have a 10 mm feed and a 6 mm ring. Your 6 mm ring has a rating of 47 amps and the welder advises a 35/45 blow fue.
This mens you should have planty of capacity, provided your 10 mm feed is not too distant from the transformer.
I am not an electrician and it would certainly be worth taking proffessional advice, as length of cable is crucial. However i would have thought it not be often you will be pulling max load as that is a big wlder

Yes 10mm feed and 6mm ring. The 10mm feed doesn't come all that far and then it's feed with 16mm before that so should be ok that way then.
Thanks for the advice, now just to see what the consensus on the oxford machines is.

I have an Oxford Mig, 3ph, I think it's a lovely welder.
I still have one of the last true Oxford migs, it's been a reliable machine, and has done a lot of work, but it's not as smooth as the newer one, if that ever gives up then I shall replace it with a new Oxford in a heartbeat (y)

Hi I have an oxford s-mig, excellent welder cannot fault it. Very powerful and good duty cycle. The separate wire feed unit is really useful in difficult places such as in trailer bodies. Have had it about 4 years now and it has behaved impeccably, even being used on the upper end of its power range most of the time. In my opinion it will rival any similar sized three phase machine. Hope this helps. Ed.

Oxford and Portamig are made under license by TecArc, all units come from the same factory just different sticky labels and tweaked specs, save your self a bit of money and buy TecArc's own. They also do heavy duty cycle model on request. Good welders for the price. :)

I've got the 330 amp single phase Oxford, bought from wsd on here.
Excellent machine. Very pleased with it.
Basic, but does exactly what it's meant to.
