can any one recommend a oxy acetylene kit and cylinder set up, for cutting and heating.
Whats the most cost effective cylinder use?
Not regular, heavy use.

Propane will be cheaper and lasts ages, you can buy that any were. You will need different nozzles for cutting and they do some very good heating nozzles.
You will normally have to hire oxeygen bottles which is expensive but some companies do sell small cylinders and exchange them when empty if you are not using it much.

TMS car spares are agents who'll sell you gas with a deposit on the bottle.

For occasional use, it works out WAY CHEAPER than renting bottles from BOC.

It was our local BOC agent that recommend buying the gas!

I now have both oxygen and MIG bottles bought this way. Acetylene bottle hasn't emptied yet.

Acetylene only needed if you're welding. Otherwise use propane for heating and cutting as acetylene bottle is basically a bomb.

I’ve been using oxy/propane for cutting, heating, brazing etc with no issues at all. Use the same tip for cutting/heating and then have a separate brazing torch.
I also have a plasma that will cut to 12mm so the gas doesn’t get a lot of use so I don’t see the point paying rental on acetylene bottle.
I get oxy from boc probably not the cheapest but they are only a mile down the road.
Propane you can get anywhere and it doesn’t cost anything to sit there, think I’ve had this bottle for two years now.

Think about replacement bottles locally, if your supplier closes early Friday and not open again till Monday and you run out as an occasional user you wont have a spare and spend the weekend @#£%&(!ing them
As above propane much more available and not cost an arm and a leg to carry a small spare for emergency bank holidays(whatever they are).
Propane not so hot though.

Is it propylene that can also be used? Propane properties but burns hotter. I’m sure that’s what a lot of local welding/fabricating places are using instead of acetylene for cutting and heating.

I use oxygen / propane for heating and cutting.
No bother, cheap, different hoses, gauges, nozzles.
But that's OK if you're just setting yourself up with one or tother.
I'd really like a plasma one day.
The Oxford with heat sounds handy, but of course there's no chance of taking it to the field.
