Safe Application of Pesticides Using Hand Held Equipment (PA6)

Has anyone on here completed one of these courses? I am trying to find some information or a booklet to read up on, prior to attending a course, any information greatly appreciated.

My secret was singing as I was spraying, get the right song and pace in time, get the right nozzle and you get the spray on accurate if you can hold it at the right height. Examiner was suspicious that I was so accurate.

I learned a lot on the course, much of it common sense of course, but some stuff that in almost 40 years of knapsacking hadn't occurred to me.

Unless you drink the contents you will pass. I did. Listen to your trainer and do exactly what they say and you will pass. Get used to reading chemical can labels and brush up on your maths . Don’t walk about wafting your nozzle like you are scattering your aunts ashes!

Just remember if you have one the red tractor people will need to see its certificate, I have the pa 1 and pa6 certificate but don't have a knapsack sprayer😉

I used to be an examiner for pa1,2,4,6 and 11. As above; the examiner will use the questions off the NPTC website. People do fail pa6 and it’s usually theory related. Walking in thinking it’s already in the bag is the worst thing you could do. You can take the calculations in with you if your maths isn’t great. Make sure you’re familiar with legal stuff; which legislation applies etc. It’s all on the first page of the examiners sheet. Once you’re through that; rest is mostly common sense. Environment risk assessment is quite involved with a pa6 due to proximity to people/sensitive areas etc.

Would say it’s hard to fail the practical test with the examiner

but we also had a multiple choice on a computer some failed that on our course but they tell you everything there!
