Packams plans for running mid Wales rejected

Nutters, cannot be done without the consent of the land managers. The environmentalist lobby are naive to think that property rights can be circumvented easily if at all......
Exactly! Their literature and website (of which none was in Welsh, very much the native tongue in these parts) stated "The project WILL be covering 10.000 acres of land". They didn't own it, they decided that figure. Think they had too many meetings between themselves, patting each other on the back at their brilliant plan....and forgot themselves. They are still blaming the 'angry farmers' and fail to realise their project wasn't supported by even local conservation groups who decided to withdraw due to negative community opinion. Not doubt they'll be back however, in a different guise with the same ideologies....

I was up that way last week and it was quite interesting to see the "no to rewilding" signs and things like "conservation yes/ rewilding no"

I don't think "rewilding" as in fence off/ remove animals has any steam in it really. Nor can I see any sustainable way of allowing predators to thrive. But it will be very interesting to see what future direction the new subsidy systems in Wales tries to take us on this

“While Summit to Sea held a series of face-to-face meetings and consultations locally, we should have communicated more widely that the project was to be community-led and owned,” she said.

“We’ve learnt some invaluable lessons about how to do this in the most effective way, which we’re committed to putting into practice elsewhere.”

Oh bugger... now where will they start their bollox?

"community-led and owned"...... my arse!

Predators by their very nature, predate. Just what were they expected to predate? Lambs?

The proposed new Welsh 'environmental' support payments will, if taken up by the desperate, micro-manage each farm to an incredible and, in my opinion, unacceptable extent. It is almost a nationalisation without the capital cost or proper compensation and hourly rate for labour. It will impose significant extra burden on most currently efficient farms and in many cases make it uneconomic to farm at all. With no guarantee of continuity from one general election to the next.

Oh yes!! The hoops to go through to get 'social security', which doesn't then ensure viability of the business and may even make some unviable, are incredible. Compulsory training and use of their consultants is just a tiny part of it. They will dictate how much slurry storage you have, how and when you apply it and in what quantity per application and annually. Limit on N and P applications per hectare. On and on, at some pen-pusher's and politician's whim.

Just found out that it is now compulsory to go on an official course to obtain accreditation in order to administer antibiotics to animals. Something I've been doing without incident, as required, for the last 50 years or so. This is for red tractor farm assurance, not for the basic payment itself and has started here and now.

Who is it that's hoping for less red tape in a future Nirvana? The poor deluded fools!
