Go onto NHS Inform to look for advice. Possibly not just friction from wellies. Anti-inflammatory if you can take them and daily tendon stretches. Stand on step with ball of your foot then drop the heel lower. Repeat umpteen times

I had issues and it turned out to be calcium deposits , had one size of a small tablet on heel , found by physio with scan and zapped with ultra sound , turns out it was a cause of back issues also due to not walking properly . I spent a fortune with osteo chasing my tail for no result , would recommend visit to good physio.

I had lumps on both achilles tendons many years ago. Eventually managed to secure a physio appointment through NHS. Went there for weeks, treatment was frictions, which is the physio neading the lumps for about 10/15 mins. Painful for a while and then went numb. Each time. Must’ve been as painful for him as for me. He said that another treatment was steroid injection but shied away from it, he maybe wasn’t allowed to do it himself, so never got that treatment. Lumps went down a bit but never recovered properly.

I also had golfers elbow and tennis elbow in both arms. Doc had me on ibuprofen for months (not a great idea, long-term medication). Then I said enough’s enough and insisted he gave me steroid injections. Couple of months later both elbows were back to normal.

I wish to fekk I’d just had steroid injections in my achilles tendons at the start. Couple of years later one of them snapped.

Ask for an injection!!

For me (and a lot of people) is due to excessive posterior chain stiffness. The cure in the acute phase was rest (from physical activities, running in particular) and stretching, initially under physio supervision. Be careful because it can break suddenly (with a loud bang, literally) and the recover from surgery is very long. It is not limited to elderly people, a collegue of mine broke it two years ago at 33.

Gentlemen of a particular age is a polite way of saying people who are no longer in their 20's...:ROFLMAO:

I am acutely aware that I am not as stretchy/bendy as I used to be and it reminds me to be much more careful than I was in my youth.
