Mrs N suffers with gout now and then, this time it's just in one foot, swells up really painfully.
Doctor sent her a course of Etoricoxib 60Mg, which she'd had a few years ago, seems it has one or two side effects, one of which is needing to pee a lot.

What’s not true. Single joint issue or diet?
this part of your post.
''It’s mainly a disease of good living and a modern western diet ''
Sorry but i lived like a tea total vegan on a diet for three months and my gout was the worst it had ever been! Only good hydration and allupurinol works for me.
The gout support groups are full of very very fit athelets with it! I am not an althelete, just a regular opinionated bloke that doesnt drink enough water!

But before you had it you lived like a farmer / salesman. Drank and ate lots of red meat. Facts are that the majority of people in the uk it’s related to excess purines in the diet. Reduce these through better eating and flush out uric acid through more drinking of water. There are a few other causes but these are less common. So as I said in my first post it’s mainly a disease of good western living and diet.
Are you ok at the moment? You seem to be picking arguments on here left, right and centre? I know I often delete what I write before I post it - I’m personally struggling with a slipped disk in my lower back. When it’s really bad I spend more time on here and my thought process goes out the window.

Sorry if I come across grumpy. Have you ever had gout? I hope not. There are few things in life more frustrating than having an attack and hobbling for a complete stranger to ask what’s wrong. I happily talk about it. They then smile and say, too much port and cheese. If you could kick their butt you would buy the pain is too much! Ha ha

Build up of Uric acid crystals. Bicarb of soda works well, use refresher sweets they are bicarb with very little sugar.

I have hyperextended my right elbow from tree surgery work, and I cannot afford to stop, or rest. I have no real pain, more a soreness, but no power. Getting old is no fun.

At some point my right arm has stopped working, if I have a long day nailing post and rail I am really struggling with sharp pain from my forearm past elbow on the outside of my arm. it’s strange I can move my arm and I have strength but it hurts to grip and is generally very painful, it’s at it’s worse when trying to write.
There’s also a strange click when I straighten my arm, the pain is worse when my wrist is stretched up.
if I have a steady day on it gets better, but after a day hammering yesterday I’m struggling to move my arm today
Can’t go to a physiotherapist, so I’m open to any advice
How’s the arm? I had pretty similar problems after spending a day clipping blackie hoggs with a rattly old handpiece last summer, it’s only now that I’m not really noticing it. Also put my back out a couple of months ago, went into spasm and literally couldn’t move (lost a fight with a 9’ telegraph pole strainer, first thing in the morning, hadn’t warmed up), was on the hill and had to phone for help to get me back on the quad that I was standing beside! Anyway, I have fully recovered from that, much faster than expected, did a lot of stretching in the first 2-3 weeks after, but have also been taking turmeric, recommended to me by a friend, who’s cousin makes these:

Was also having problems with my knees but haven’t been noticing them at all recently, I figured it was worth a try and certainly don't regret it. Don’t know if it a just because I’m not so ignorant as I was regarding turmeric previously, but I’m sure I’m seeing it pop up more and more now, could just be browser cookies tho.

I still have a bad arm, but I seem to just work round it, it hurts to hammer and is generally painful, but I am just used to it now.
Hoping it mends slowly, plenty of stretching and hope

I have recently had problems with both of my arms . Very painful to put pressure on them . Eventually got a bit of advice of the Dr who said he thought I had probably had a virus and it was the after effects of it . I'm no type sure if it's the same as you got but my arms are improving slowly .

Now they are working again, go an see an Osteopath and get some targeted massage/treatment.

I have my doubts that you will see it mend unless you can stop doing some of the tasks that aggravate the arm.

I had a similar issue with a knee 10-12 years ago and had MRI scan etc What actually sorted it in my view, was stopping driving a particular compact mowing tractor with HST! Operating the foot control was causing RSI...

Similar problem here, but it’s my right shoulder/ neck . Kicks off as soon as I have to use the arm driving loader , tractor joysticks , even mouse on computer . Repetitive strain or similar . Getting to the stage I can’t do a days work or even a few hours loading bales or anything . Going to a Mc Timony chiropractor , who sorted me out a few years ago, but even he’s not making much headway atm.
Can’t carry on like this much longer .

As you talk around your circle of friends the conversation will generally fall to the fact we're all suffering from more aches and pains than usual, I do have a theory that as you get older Rigour Mortis begins to set in but there is probably much to be said about the theory that what we are feeling are after effects of catching a mild form of Covid. Pretty much all of us can say that we had a good dose of flu around last Christmas so that could well have been the start of the Coronavirus pandemic.

That's what my Dr was alluding to without actually mentioning it !

Hi.
Gout is inherited.
My mum had it as did her dad,
I have it as does one of my sons.
Four generations in a line.

I recently had a very painful bout of tennis elbow type pain, in the muscles above and below my right elbow, probably a sort of RSI type issue from using levers in tractors and telehandlers all the time. A friend of mine recommended magnesium gel, and after about a week or two of rubbing it into the affected areas twice a day, the pain has gone entirely.
