Painting a galvanised gates

The old wooden entrance gates to our cottage need replacing ,so considering two galvanised gates and posts for durability. So can one successfully paint galvanised gates , if one uses the appropriate primers etc. Reluctant to buy wooden gates as although they look nicer I am concerned how long they will last before drooping due to quality of the wood and shrinkage.

Presumably you send yours to a specialist company that offers that service?
Any idea of rough cost for powder coating a 12ft gate, many thanks

I got gates made up by local fabricator and they took care of it all. I think powedercoating them is the same price as galvanising. As they’re house gates they have both done to last a life time.

Was going to suggest you go for oak as probably more in keeping with a cottage…….then I googled prices

Use high build vinyl straight on the galv without t wash. Done loads and it's a great job.
