Painting marine ply?

I’ve a few big slide doors clad in marine ply and they haven’t lasted long at all,can I paint new ply or will it react with the glue?

Only other idea is galv tin,anyone else suggest something long lasting?

Yes you need to drill large holes in the board and use washers on your fixings so it can move about

Yes warps all over place used to fit it in horseboxes .

drill over size holes for the bolts you use to fix it on and have mudguard washers to cover holes, the 10mm won't move as much as the 6mm in differing temperatures

I struggle with this too. What I thought I knew was marine ply is now called concrete formwork ply wood. It’s got a sort of phenolic coating and has the edges sealed, washable, stain proof etc.

Marine ply is now what I used to call wpb and won’t last five minutes in the wet.

I was sold it as marine ply,but you don’t know how good it is till it’s flaking and warping.

It's all shuttering ply around here which is waterproof as compressed paper even with several coats of yacht varnish. Haven't seen proper marine ply for years. Resin bonded ply (Rhino board) is better but several times the cost of shuttering ply and much heavier.

I’m going to go down the stokbord route,can buy it in green so will save painting.

We have big sliding doors clad in flat galvanised sheets, they are fine.
Without measuring they are about 8’ wide and 12’ tall.

Jackson roofing at York should part with some plastisol steel before they roll and form it into box profile sheets.
Flat, light and many colours.
Easy to screw onto existing if it's not completely buggered.
