pallet forks advice needed

what are the dimensions of pallet forks for most farm handlers? Making an implement with pallet slots, and as it will be potentially used on various farm handlers, I want to make it fit as many machines as possible. Most JCB loadalls are 4 inch wide forks, are there many other makes out there with wider forks?

Make the slots 6 inches wide

Nothing worse than trying to thread a big piece of cotton through a tiny needle

Especially on a winter's morning with a hangover

(And the forks I have on the tractor are 5" wide, 5 foot long originally from a matbro)

Is there any reason the slots need to be a fairly tight fit? If not make them about 8 inches wide, it will cover all eventualities and will be easier to drive into

Yea they need to be tight and possible to stop implement sway

That might not be straight forward as mine lock on position every few inches, I don’t know wether that’s a standard spacing across all brands .
What are you making, might give ideas that are more helpful.

Loop over the top so lift with any pallet forks or graip. Weld on brackets for the required forklift if sway important. Both better than trying to hit slots with pallet forks as @DrDunc on uneven/slippy ground.

Ok guys thanks for the replies. I cant say what for at the moment, as im waiting for patent protection , but will keep you posted as project progresses.

Common fork section sizes are 100 x 45, 100 x 50 and 125 x 45, 1100mm long is common as is 1200mm

You do get other sizes but this covers most machines up to 4 ton at least

For true versatility how about a bit of sheet metal top and bottom with a series of holes in. Then pins and lynch pins to select the best fit for the tines in use.
