Not really sure but says " based on Lactoferrins and Lactoperoxidase enzymes" if that's any help.

We're going to give it a try. Spectam doesn't seam to be as good/effective as it was and orojet cost a fortune and leaks if tipped over! The vet we use won't less us use the antibiotic tablets as they aren't licensed for sheep:banghead:

Would be interested to see how you get on .Found spectam is a waste of time on the few we get with watery mouth here too. 1ml Amoxycare down the lambs throat and 1ml intra muscular works best, even brings the real rough ones back from brink.

We tend to get it in the second week when the pens have had a few ewes through them but we rarely lose lambs to watery mouth, just jab them with betamox la.
But it just means they stay in for extra 24hrs bunging up the pens!! If they only have a wet mouth and no other signs I jab them and throw them out!

True but there's something seriously wrong with your lambs if you need to give every one of them a squirt of spectam.

I would think most people that use Spectam (or any other prophylactic ab at birth), use it to stop anything being 'seriously wrong' in the first place. If you are treating clinical watery mouth, then it will always be a fire brigade job, with less satisfactory results.:(

Think I misworded my post,I know why so many people use it but I do disagree with having to spectam everything, 99% of lambs should have the get up and go to suck and 99% of ewes should have plentiful colostrum to prevent watery mouth prevailing. Only spectam triplets or maybe a weak lamb that is a bit iffy.

These small doses of antibodies, surely they are just going to cause a more and more resistant strain of watery mouth ......

Hi. My first post so be nice.... Lactoferrin and Lactoperoxidase are potent combination of protein, enzymes (naturally found in the udder and saliva). Both LF and LP are incredibly good at controlling ecoli bacteria. Panatect Protect is showing fantasting results so far, biggest selling point is the effectiveness (of course) but it may help to remove the blanket treatment use of antibiotics for watery mouth which has to be encouraged. One tablet placed over the back of the tongue at birth (no applicator, just your finger) or 1 tablet morning and night if using to treat. In packs of 250 at around £60. That's .24p each which is dearer than antibiotics i know, but it is a step away from the high profile antimicrobial resistance issue. Any use...?

Ordered some a fortnight ago and they arrived 2 days ago. So we've only just started using them. Will give my opinion in due course. :)
We had watery mouth starting a couple of weeks ago and my brother got some Osmonds Sustain to try. It seems to have worked.

Less watery mouth about this year here it seems, and accordingly, I have only been giving Spectam to trebles and a few weaker lambs where there is a risk of them getting less colostrum, though we do spend time topping up as well.
I don't like routinely giving anything TBH.
As above, a shot of Betamox LA has taken care of anything that has scoured.
