Paper crumble as bedding

Have used it at times when straw is running short, like now for instance.
It will go through the straw spreader as long as you are careful not to bung the turbine. Makes a nice dusty bed for a start but soon goes "muddy" as it has a high moisture content in the beginning. Probably need to use straw every so often to put some structure in loose yards.
Find cattle don't seem as content with it as they are with straw. If it could be dried it would be a better product.

I have used compost over the years. It seems to work well with a bit of straw over it twice a week. Never seen fields look so well after spreading it even though an analysis of it showed very few nutrients in it. Only problem is local council are trying to get £30/ton for it now so that's the end of that. I have used paper before now but plays havoc with trace elements and it stays on the top of the land for months after.
