parlour washings

Would like to change our wash out system a bit, ideally I would like to run the parlour washings back into the volume washer pump to wash down the parlour, would the detergent be a problem for the pump as I seals and rusting the inside. Thanks

Don't do it - was told that it rots the inside (fins?) of the volume washer :(

Maybe you could have it so you just diverted the final rinse through to your volume washer tank.

I agree that if you put anything milky or soapy in the tank then the floors could soon get slippy.

What chemicals do you use? If you mix acid and alkali then you will get a salt residue which could over time start to block pipes and rot metals plus you can get some pretty toxic fumes mixing acid and alkali although this shouldn't be too much of a problem when they're diluted.

i put the mornings wash in a recieving vessel and pump it through seperate hose , it means i can splash some warm chemical water over the units and walls to help keep them clean , i use an old milk pump so there is no corrosion issue with it as it is stainless steel
plate cooler water goes into volume washer tank

Always used to send that for the cows to drink when we milked. They seemed to like a drink with the chill off it :)

+ 1 for the plate cooler water

Maybe thats what i would need, all we use for detergent is D90 powder and hypo in the night. but i guess this would just eat any normal pump

Guarantee that if you switch from hypo to just a cold peracetic rinse at night (which you don't have to rinse out) your bactoscans will fall and you'll save water and time.

we hot wash morning with alkaline
cold wash afternoon with acid
cold rinse with peracetic at night , quick and fool proof

Have thought about this and how it would save water, but bacto sitting around the low teens at the moment and fairly consistantly there as well

I never use hypo but I was assuming that you have to do a clear water rinse after circulating the hypo?

No need to do this with peracetic. A friend of mine with an 8:16 has a 200l wash tub and when its half empty he tips in 200ml of peracetic and the while lot just goes through once and drains to waste without any circulation. I still like to circulate mine for a mine or two because its a big bore milk line which takes a bit more cleaning.

To be fair if hypo works for you I'm not going to this I'm not going to slag it off, its less than 1/3 of the price of peracetic. I use 700ml of peracetic for 32 units, how much hypo do you use?

The savings really come from not doing so many hot washes, I just do Monday and Tuesday mornings hot caustic then peracetic rinse the rest of the week.

Rolling bacto is 26

I'm going to take you up on that challenge, could do with a few comfort points. I do a hypo rinse at night, circulate it then rinse through with more hypo. Use a glugful each time.

With bactos there then you don't want to change anything. Are your cows in and what do you bed them up with? Also what is you wash routine in the mornings. Could do with lowering mine a bit

I use 400/500ml of hypo for 32 units,200l drum of hypo is £68.

I only heat my water in the night on cheap rate, the header tank contains the waste water out of the plate cooler so it's aired for a start.(y)

I do a hot wash every morning alternating between acid and alkaline,I need to do this because of having milk meters, usually run in the teens for bactoscan,I have to be under 30 for top payment band.

Yea cows are in lows came in last thuesday last week due to heavy rain, They are on sawdust and lime, plenty of lime but make sure its always covered up with sawdust. Washing in the morning we just use D90 powder and really hot water, then hypo in the night, nothing fancy, i bet next test result will be 200 or more now

I use my washings from the hot wash to rinse the outside of the tank. Autowash system, fitted an extra diverter to pump washings into a wheeliebin at end of the cycle, submersible pump then makes it rain over the tank.
3 days alkaline then 1 day acid. Fully automatic.
