We had similar neighbour see our field on fire when he was cultivating his field and he called the Fire Brigade and came through the gate with cultivator and circled it before the fire engines got there .
i’ve got some good neighbours .

Yesterday at about 18.30 a part field of hay went on fire the rest was saved by locals
The fire was not caused by vandals but a whirlwind taking up hay and hitting overhead power cables
Saw that a few years ago just after I'd finished tedding a field, luckily I'd just stopped to speak to a neighbour who I'd not seen for a while and we just managed to stamp it out.

You couldn't make it up!

Place I used to work always had an old tractor and cultivator/discs parked in the corner of any field we were working at harvest time. They'd had a combine go up in smoke some years back that took most of a field of barley with it.
Same idea but a slurry tanker full of water sounds like a simple enough precaution for folks hay making.
