Thanks for the replies. Am I right in thinking I need a cscs card and cpcs card to get on to sites? Would I need anything else?

I
I went on with just CPCS card and was never asked for anything else however I notice a few jobs advertised requiring both.
I might be wrong but I suspect it depends if you're going to be expected to get off the machine and graft or just sit on a seat.

CPCS is a higher level and more in-depth.

Make sure you get the right tickets for excavators, there is a cut-off in weight around 10 to 12 ton below and above.

Muck shifting with a 20T excavator is bread and butter (boring as hell) however, the site Managers have an expectation in tons per hour.

Digging holes for the archaeological digs is the job, a hole here and a hole there with a mini, and the days gone.......

There are two sorts of digger drivers. the farm digger driver and a construction digger driver the farm digger driver in my experience is let’s see how much we can rip out in one go and if you are trenching this will break the side walls and they will collapse .the construction digger driver will take it slowly only taking small amount of soil out and placing it away from the trench so it does not collapse. when I see person on a digger I can tell within milliseconds which category they are in.

Your correct. But alot of construction operators started on farms also everyone started with no experience

It’s all to do with training and being told how to do the job by someone who’s been doing it for a little while you learned such a lot by watching someone .
Before someone comes on here .
I will say it myself I’m still in the Farm category.

Like with anything theres two types of ops, see some that just dig scoops and mix everything up, i prefer to dig in layers, seperate and take my time. I was never told how to do it just learnt myself and watched and learned. Ive still plenty to learn but everyone goes about things the best way to suit them. I would be interested to see if doing my licence would improve me faster than learning by just having ago

Looks good.
Shouldn't the verge be lower than the road though so the water can run off into the ditch?

The highways spend quite a bit of money here shaving off the verge when it gets too high.

IMHO it's the Department of Transports responsibility to ensure roads they build do not flood communities and the environment.

They do however dig small channels to move water into farmers ditches - Villages then blame farmers for flooding.
