The Conservative Party has pledged to keep farm support funding at CAP levels post-Brexit for every year of the next Parliament, should it win an overall majority in next month’s general election. The Labour Party has already committed to maintaining a £3bn annual direct farm support package. In 2017, the Theresa May administration promised to […]

This is all just another layer of bullshot designed to be certain of maintaining the rural vote.

The simple fact is that the CAP is flawed and beyond repair. We need to return the Gov. Farming Aid to the production of food - ok so it can be linked to growing daisies, or even the growing of Linseed and permit the growers to spray it off and then plough it in once it's flowered, but the EU influence of a drift away from food production, needs to be halted, and the emphasis re-directed.

By returning the subsidy and linking it to food production then the benefits to tenant farmers will be that rents will no longer be tied to the known figures which are readily available to their landlords. I sold some useful ewes to a guy who had a 200 acre council owned farm - I asked him how he came by the farm and in the process of taking over, the interviewer said "…. and we'll need the SFP as rent".

[edit] - Land values are now linked to the Entitlements with wealthy foreign buyers buying up vast swathes of LFA land and simply for the annual bonus.

Time for change.

Balance is required as in all things.

Money is needed to protect the countryside environmentally as well, plenty derive their living or part of from tourism and or land , hedgerows fence/ tree etc maintenance in this beautiful part of the world.
Renewables should also be integrated as that money works it's way back into the local communities., keeping them going,

An arrogant 'all for farming attitude' would be a step backwards and to the detriment of those that have spent time and money on schemes or off there own backs .

Is subsidy money is needed to pay the utilities bill or other necessities, then so be it, on the other hand if it's just to keep a fancy vehicle or tractor , machinery , or finance payments for those then it would be better to stop tomorrow .
