There's definitely a living to be made, but how good a living depends on your ability to sell direct. Good visibility, parking and posh area and passing trade are all significant.

Personally, I'd rather collect the eggs than pluck and gut a dead bird.

Do you have to kill em pluck em etc etc ?
We get them done locally.
My neighbour will be doing them this season - he wasn't fully licensed last year so we had to go a little further.

Salatin is very keen on doing it "in house", and certainly, the cost is significant compared to your cheap supermarket chicken. However, with my neighbour already set up, and personally being up to capacity (🙄) in terms of labour, it made sense to outsource.

I’d love to give it a go but I don’t want to kill pluck etc etc .

They sent us one of Poorbuthappy's (or, rather, Amy's) soy-free chickens to try. Absolutely delicious, completely different taste to any supermarket bird. Glad I didn't have to pay the full price...
Err, the broilers are in fact mine🤣
Eggs and pork is Amy's department 👍

But yes he is pretty expensive. We're a fair bit cheaper sold locally, but still meet price resistance.
We're on a par with premium free range or organic locally, but I think London prices for those would be a fair bit more than here, so its a different market, with different costs.
The system is never going to compete with cheap supermarket chicken, but neither is the product comparable.

Are you sitting down?
London is a different country though, different planet really.

Apologies and compliments to the farmer! Top chicken.
