Patchwork working width setup

Hi

We've just had a second hand patchwork system to go with our first 24m spreader and I think I'm confusing myself!

Spreading to 24m, we need to travel at 12m widths. So, is your working width in patchwork 12 or 24? I think I've managed to work everything out - measuring, AB etc from online quickstart guide.

If you’re spreading 24m you need to be 24m apart, not 12. Enter 24 into the patchwork. Easiest to use on straight line guidance. Set your AB line off the streightest edge of the field as you’re doing your first pass. If the field is an awkward shape drive straight down the middle and work either side. Took me years to work out to do it that way.

Usually a 12m spreader actually spreads over a 24m width but you run at 100% overlap, that is at 12 metre distance from the previous path. Is this new 24m spreader really a 24m spreader, spreading over 48 metres or a 12m spreader spreading over 24 metres?

After finishing in the parlour it's back ti the manual! It's the kubota version of the vicon ROM.

I use a patchwork and set at 24m and 12m headland.

If you're aiming to drive 12m apart set at 12 m. Check that offset is 0 and reciever in middle of cab roof. I usually just sow fertiliser with it at ON and paint the field green and don't bother with AB lines. Straighten up 1 side if needed and sow away from it saves having narrow strip left at both sides if u open up the middle first.

Thanks, will that mean my wheelings are 12m apart and I throw the same area twice? I.e. do you throw to the previous wheeling or does one pass do the whole 24 and then you start over?

wheeling are 24m apart.

it spreads to 24m but the outer 6or so meter each side is spread twice on consecutive runs to get an even spread over full 24m.

Hence being called a double overlap system

I suspect mowing 3.1 metres will be another challenge in a couple of weeks! Only really need it to open up in the right spot. How do you guys do it?

Just set and open out on multiples of 3m

Don't try to do it in 3m widths. I've mowed thousands of acres with a patchwork .

I set it at 26m and go up every second width then ignore it till the next break . At 26 or even 52m you'll get everything in a slightly narrow mower width instead of trying to drive spot on and ending up missing a tiny strip.

The wider the width the easier it is to turn onto and follow the line also set it on coarse it's not as jumpy.

I leave mine at 18m all the time fertiliser and making openings mowing. Find a line somewhere near middle of field and follow it.

I found if I marked a new 48m AB line on the last run before opening up a brick it worked well. With a trailed mower when it was just getting too tight to turn right, there was just enough room to start swinging to the left. Iirc, 7 right turns, 3 left turns inc a 3/4-full run to finish (all being well).

By leaving it to the last moment, you discard any driving errors/drift from what you've done previously.

This was a teejet 220, so the most basic with no offsets etc.

Did you sort the spreader out? There are different veins and gears for different spread widths. Think you need to find out what's fitted to the machine and get a tray test done. Long and short of it is that spreader throws some material to the next wheelmark each side but amount drops off near the outside so the material should be even when you turn round back up the field. So a 12m spread will throw 24m (12 each side). If thats your width set the patchwork at 12m.

Have a vicon rom machine spread at 18 metres every single field striped done tray test last year was fine Fert is being spread either side of tractor but nothing behind
