Bet there will be a base fee though, can't see any refunds coming if results are below par.
Will be meaningless anyway with serviced chem supply, more than one way to skin a cat.

Not for me either. It’s basically serviced agronomy which uses loads of inputs that cost a fortune to get the best yields not the most profitable for the grower

It’s basically trying to justify big input spend by claiming good yields are all down to the chemicals, and not the weather. I know people who use/have used agri and the spend on unescesery inputs is verging on criminal. You only have to read the articles in some mags by agri agronomists to realise this.

Any thoughts on this !

Absolutely ludicrous idea. Every single serviced agronomy company should be shut down with immediate effect as their business model of advising on and then supplying inputs is a crime against the environment and a crime against their customers.

I know I’ve been harping on about this for 10 years plus but I won’t stop because they are just shafting all their customers. You might as well pull your pants down and bend over the kitchen table in readiness for your agronomists visit.

I’ll go as far now as saying any farmer still using a serviced agronomist is a blithering idiot.

Sack them and go independent for the advice and then buy your inputs off the cheapest on the day. Before anybody says they haven’t got time to ring around - just set up a group email. Before anybody says you can’t return unused chemicals - yes you can. Before anybody says the independent will be getting a kickback from whoever supplies the product - you are an idiot.

So there is no such thing as an independent who insists you buy through 'his' supplier and 'his' rates?

Do all independents never advise / recommend treatments that are not necessary? And what is necessary - goodness that is a minefield. Who arbitrates and ultimately decides what is necessary.

Hey ho great thread - could run for a while. Just need the anti Co-op central grain store issue merged into this thread to get a mega War and Peace edition.

Best wishes,

My chap will give me a view. End if the day it's up to me to spray or nay. I chose not to apply a strob to my oats. Buck stops with me on apply or not.

The whole point of going independent is to save money. In our case it was £150/ha! But we still maintained yield and quality. The saving comes by not adding in all the snake oil rollocks they want to add into every tank as well as saving on chemical purchase costs.

The point is your soil has a yield max and you can’t polish a turd. Throw in the weather which is the major deciding factor and the agronomist has very little input in the overall yield. At the end of the day you already know you are going to apply 1 or 2 herbicides and 1-3 fungicides. You don’t need insecticides and you definitely don’t need snake oils because you might as well go and pee on the crop whilst telling it how much you love it. Do this at nighttime whilst lining the stars up in some rose tinted glasses.
