Anyone still growing peaola?
I’m growing poats!
A couple of control strips with no oats the peas went really flat. Predominantly standing when mixed.

How do you think it yielded? What inputs did it have?
We haven’t cleaned out the respective components yet but c. 4.2 t/ha gross. Drilled end of March, from memory seed rates were 220 kg/ha peas, 40 kg/ha oats, pre em herbicide, V-R potash and 30 kg/N for the oats.
If I repeat next year there is scope to reduce the proportion of oats.

What combine settings did you use? I have a trial of organic pea barley. The lexion book describes the concave as 20mm for peas and 10mm for barley. I picked 15mm and got a fairly predictable result: split peas and unharvested barley heads. Just wondering what everyone does for these mixtures including peaola?

I wasn’t driving the combine but it was set up for peas. I can see that this would work better with oats than barley. The peas were the main focus and any oats retained seen as a bonus.

Cheers for that. I do get the feeling that all intercrops are a compromise. I suppose I also have to deal with the lack of reglone to aid my threshing. I have barley heads green and over ripe with peas that have pod shatter and others that are ready for the jolly green giant! As a side note we broadcast 2kg of crimson clover seed over our organic osr. Not sure how it will fight the weeds or the winter.
