If an animal has (P) after its name, does that mean it is homozygous polled?
Thanks
Thanks
I wouldn't have said it would guarantee it. The P could just mean it was born without horns, and registered before any tests were done. You would need the calf genotyping to be able to say if it was homozygous or not. The genotype result would be either Pp = heterozygous, PP = homozygous, or pp = no polled gene.If an animal has (P) after its name, does that mean it is homozygous polled?

For shorthorns the P just means it's polled, not whether it's homozygous or not .This would be for shorthorns.
Or the breeder thought it was polled when it was registeredFor shorthorns the P just means it's polled, not whether it's homozygous or not .
