Peola

Is there anything else you can use for peas other than spring rape? I hate spring osr but hate flat peas even more!

Mustard. Cheap seed, concentrate on the pea crop and you don’t have to make any compromises trying to get the harvest timings right for two crops and if you get some mustard seed out of the job you can use it for a cheap cover crop next year. I used it for the same use in vetch seed production.

Peaola stands for peas with canola (osr) as our American friends call osr canola . Like the idea my self as flat peas are a nightmare. Mustard sounds another option what sort of seed rate of mustard to companion drill with the standard pea seed rate also will flea beetle be a issue as with osr .

Mustard seed is nearly worse than spring rape as a weed but that's not a bad suggestion as long as it doesn't run to seed before the peas.

A simple sieve or auger tube with 3mm holes would let the mustard through but not the peas.

Combine settings would be a bit more tricky, unless you are planning to autocast the mustard straight through the combine
