Pesticide Packaging - The good, the bad and the ugly?

Good Day FF,

Some of you may have been involved in a recent thread 'Pesticide Labels' and as a result of feedback gained from the forum, changes are expected to be implemented to enable clearer information on UPL's UK labels.

Following on from that, I am keen to gain your feedback on your experience with actual pesticide packaging (i.e. cans, bags, sizes, types, usability, etc...) and kindly ask you to share your likes, dislikes and user experiences?

Again, your comments will be used to help improve future packaging of pesticide products so please do share - Thank you.

Dock sprays such as Doxstar would be nice in tubs bigger than 2 litres. An almighty pain when it's 16 tubs every time you fill up. Surely larger tubs would mean less environmental hazardous waste??

Prepare to be stung by a wasp's nest of sprayer drivers.
User friendly chemical containers = oxymoron.
I'll start the ball rolling, everyone feel free to join in !!
1. Container caps so tight you cannot open them when wearing gloves.
(usually opened with a pair of plumbers pliers) :finger::finger::finger:

Easy clean cans like the Syngenta S-PAC where there's a film inside so everything falls out, personally i detest BASF cans as they have the grooves on the side.
Choice of 5 and 10L cans in everything so no 500ml, 1 or 2 litre cans for bigger users. Square Cans that's can be stored on top of 1 another so can be palletised without cardboard boxes and can be stacked in the chemical store?

Cans that have lids/labels colour coded to whether it's herbicide/fungicide/insecticide etc..

Square topped cans (many 20l cans) are difficult to wash and drain. Why can we not have 2 or 3 patterns of lid - I have two lid spanners and still often have to resort to a strap wrench.

Great, keep them coming - Thank you.

There are threads in the arable section on this.

Ideally, a pack should be transparent so we can see if it is clean. The "ribbed and dimpled for her pleasure" versions are not loved, nor are the stupid yellow BASF handles. Necks should be easy to get a rinse nozzle in, ie not like some of the 1lt insecticide cans. Lids should be able to be removed without the assistance of The Hulk. Foils, if still there, should be easy to open with the standard "Mandops" blue can spanner. Finally, cans should be of a suitable size to not need thousands to fill a sprayer ie generic epoxi should now come in 10lt cans.

My post from the other thread

I know it's not strictly label related, but @Tester if you work for UPL please take note of this:

https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/sprays-and-their-cans-2016-17-season.138234

There are a couple of comments about UPL that I posted on there.

@static might have some input here as he started that feedback thread.

And I've even gone back to find my UPL posts in the topic:

Couple more today.

One for @Mike@Bayer. Why does Fandango have a foil seal but Proline doesn't?

And for the UPL guys....a nice can, but please remove the foil seal. I can put in 5 Moddus cans in the time I've cut the seal on just one of these.

Get rid of all foil seals!
Only tighten lids so that they are easy enough to remove without heavy duty tools!
If putting a scale on the side of the can make the can clear enough so that the liquid inside can be seen otherwise its just pointless!

Get on farm with some sprayer operators and test any new designs out with them not some design engineer in a lab who doesn't have to use thousands of them over the years.

touchdown or hoedown 20l containers have a separate small cap which you open and acts as a breather for the main cap , its a fantastic idea and stops the gurgling of the chemical when pouring and less chance of splash back .

Do you have an image of this to share perhaps?

Any spray operators based in the North West happy to allow a visit?

I use your Minstrel and your Xerton this year. Both were fine. Although I havent seen the bill for the Xerton yet, it seems to have done the job required.
