Hey people just lookin for some advice with lambing fast approaching, we have scanned high this year with the downside being we have lots of triplets on the way, any sheep farmers out there that have an automatic lamb feeder or know a good place to buy one? Thanks in advance..

Make one. Here's what you need.
A pack of non return teats and pipes from mole valley £30.
A fish tank heater £14.
When your at the aquatic shop ask them for a bucket which the fish come in. They are around 4 gallon with a screw down lid the buckets are really strong. £2 in the charity box.
A smaller bucket which will fit inside the large bucket.
3 aerosol can lids e.g furniture polish.
Use a 1" hole drill bit and drill a hole in the large bucket at the top of where the smaller bucket sits.
Glue the aerosol lids in a trangle shape in the bottom of the large bucket about 3" apart.
Fasten in with the suckers the fish tank heater between the aerosol lids run the cable out of the hole you drilled. Put in the smaller bucket inside the larger bucket which will sit on the aerosol lids and run the pipes from the teats through the hole and into the smaller bucket. Asemble the teat holder and Fasten it to a hurdle in the orphan lamb pen Job done.

We've been hiring a machine for the last 15+ years from M&A Calf Systems, worked very well but was quite expensive, the other downside being we were always hiring an old machine which meant we could have reliably issues, not something you want when you are feeding 100+ Cade lambs. This year we have however bought our own machine, which is a eco feeder from Volac. What's your location and how many lambs do you think you will be rearing?

How many lambs are you expecting to have to rear? If it's a dozen, then make one as posted above (or buy similar Shepherdess type thing). If it's 50-100, you'll be sick of cleaning the damned thing and mixing milk up for it. If you buy one, then buy a Britmix: http://www.britmix.co.uk/
I tried all sorts when we used to get FOC hire machines with milk powder and, in the end, used to insist on a Britmix. I bought an ex-hire one in the end, about 15 years ago, and have hardly spent a penny on it since. Reliable, simple, easy to clean and the guy that makes them is a gent. I needed a part for it last year and he popped down to open the workshop on a Sunday for me (which I certainly wasn't expecting).(y)

Forgot to say. You need water in the large bucket about 5 litre add a capful of dettol which will stop the water smelling.

Once i got the bits n pieces It took me about half an hour to make. Expecting to use it for 20-30 lambs from a flock I look after. Hopefully it will do the job.

got the @flockeye feeder here , a cool box , aquarium heater , bucket and teat , easy and simple , I dug our old pye one out the cupboard today , heated water with the coils inside (x2) and a plug for a mixer if anyone looking for one , but needs repair to chipped fibreglass outer box , had very little use , similar to the heatwave

My son has been through this in the last 3 years . . .

Fish tank heater idea - waste of time
Shepherdess & Ewe 2 both had faults & had to go back

Heatwave machine last year was a clear winner by miles & excellent with calves too
